Engage in Rewarding Work as a Construction Advisor for Homecoming 2024!

About the Role

Would you love to assit teams of student volunteers as they work to construct the 2024 Clemson University Homecoming House on Bowman Field? If so, we've got a job for you!

Pickens County Habitat for Humanity is seeking volunteers to advise and inspire our student construction teams. This is an incredible opportunity to use your skills, knowledge, and leadership abilities to empower others while creating safe and affordable housing for those in need.

Time Commitment Required:

  • Attend a volunteer orientation and safety training session (approx. 1 hour).
  • Dedicate a half day of on-site volunteering during the event.

Volunteer Responsibilities:

  • Secure your spot as an advisor by signing up in advance (limited spots available each day).
  • Dress appropriately for the weather and wear protective, closed-toe footwear. All volunteers are strongly encouraged to wear a hat and bring sunscreen.
  • Prioritize safety as the utmost priority and attend training sessions.
  • Foster a positive and enjoyable construction day for fellow volunteers.
  • Arrive at the jobsite at 7:30 am to receive the day's work description.
  • Provide clear instructions to your assigned group regarding construction tasks, safety measures, and cleanup.
  • Supervise and support your group's work, ensuring quality and safety standards are upheld.
  • Consult the Construction Coordinator for any questions or material needs that may arise.
  • Share progress updates and address any concerns at the end of the day.
  • Empower and motivate student leaders and volunteers by offering advice and direction as needed.
  • Communicate praise and appreciation for a job well done, fostering a sense of accomplishment.
  • Be approachable and available to answer any questions that arise.

Volunteer Qualifications:

  • Willingness to learn and help others.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability and enjoyment in overseeing and instructing volunteers.
  • Construction experience is preferred, but not required.
  • Clean background check.

Note: Pickens County Habitat for Humanity provides both lunch and water for supervisory volunteers. All necessary tools and safety gear will be provided for your convenience. If circumstances prevent you from fulfilling your commitment, promptly contact our staff to allow scheduling of a replacement.
